Does eating one pomegranate seed require a bracha acharona

Question:

Does eating one pomegranate seed require a bracha achas m’ein shalosh because of the Halacha of berya?

Answer:

One seed of a pomegranate is considered a “beriya” ( a whole being). It is controversial if a beriya gets a bracha achrona even if it is not the size of a kezayis. The Shulchan Aruch (O:CH 210-1) therefore says, that we should avoid eating a beriya that is less than the size of a kezayis in order to avoid this issue. The ways to avoid this issue are either to eat more than a kezayis, or to break the seed apart, (which is not so easy with a pomegranate seed, but with other whole items it is easier), or to eat one part of it, and then the other. This way you didn’t eat the whole beriya at the same time

Best wishes
