Taking tzedaka

Question:

My brother in America told his friend who, is a gvir that he is collecting money for poor families in Israel. He gave a nice amount without asking any questions. My brother asked for an organization to get the tax deduction and he gave it through them (I think they took 5 percent but I am not sure). My brother said I can do with the money as I want. Being that I am a poor family, what percentage must I give to someone else and how much can I keep for myself. (Is there a צד to say that the money went to the organization and they give to poor families so I can keep all of it)?

Answer:

Thank you for your question.

Since you are eligible to get from the money you can keep as much as you decide, however you should give some of it to another poor person. The amount is at your discretion.

Best wishes
