Fish and meat

Question:

Sholom Uvracha,
If one has to wait 6 hours between meat to milk because of meat stuck between the teeth, why don’t we have to wait between meat to fish? Why are we סומך on washing out our mouths and eating something when it comes to meat and fish, but not by meat and milk? Lechora, we should say חמירא סכנתא מאיסורא?

Answer:

You are asking a good question of a talmid chacham.

We see in the poskim that a number of the harchakos between meat and milk do not apply to meat and fish. For example, although there is a prohibition to eat meat on a table that has milk on it, nevertheless we are allowed to eat fish on a table that has meat. The poskim say that it is for this very reason, since it is an issue of sakana, therefore people are automatically careful, and therefore there is no need to make more harchakos. (see sources). Therefore, since the danger is only with eating them together, there was no need to make the other harchakos.
