During the nine days we are supposed to minimize doing pleasurable things such as building or planting things that bring us happiness. According to a number of poskim this includes going on pleasure trips, as it is a time for us to realize that we are in golus and there is something in our lives that is sorely missing- the Bais Hamikdash, and everything that it represents. Therefore, it is improper to take pleasure trips during the nine days.
