Latest time to recite kiddush on Shabbo night and day?

Question:

1) What is the latest time that one can recite kiddush on Shabbos night? Is there a l’chatchila vs. B’diavad time?
2) What is the latest time that one can recite kiddush on Shabbos day? Is there a l’chatchila vs. b’diavad time?

Answer:

Hello,

  1. Kiddush may be recited the whole Friday night. It is best to recite it right after davening maariv, however it may be recited the whole night.
  2. The day kiddush may be said the whole day, however l’chatchila one should eat the daytime meal in the morning, and Kiddush is aid beforehand.

A person who couldn’t say kiddush the whole Friday night, will say the bracha of kiddush for the night meal during the day, however vayechulu is not recited.

If one didn’t manage to say the nighttime kiddush until after sunset of Shabbos day, then the kiddush is still said, but without saying Hashem’s name in the bracha. This is because it is unclear if it is still the day of Shabbos.
