Thank you for your question.
It is permitted to work on Rosh Chodesh. Women however have the minhag not to do certain things such as doing laundry, and sewing. This is because Rosh Chodesh is a partial Yom Tov for women because they did not want to give their jewelry to use for the Golden Calf. Additionally for kabalistic reasons, there are some people that don’t cut their nails or take haircuts on Rosh Chodesh.
