Minyan running late for neitz

Question:

If the minyan is running late and not going to reach the amidah by neitz, should you go ahead and daven in time or stay at the pace of the minyan?

My understanding of your question is that you are davening in a minyan that happens to be davening close to the time of vasikin, but won’t make it in time, and you want to know if today you should daven quicker in order to daven at the time of vasikin.

Your question involves two issue, the first is does davening vasikin override tefillah b’tzibbur, and the second one is one allowed to daven Shemona Esrei in shul before the tzibbur.

Regarding the first issue, there are different opinions which is better. (See sources) The Mishna Berura and a number of other poskim say that if one davens vasikin all the time then he can daven then even if he doesn’t have a minyan, therefore in your situation, which sounds like you don’t daven vasikin regularly, rather in a regular minyan, then you should wait and daven with the minyan. (It would be better to daven shema before the netz and then wait a little before Shemona Esrei for the minyan to catch up and then daven with them.)

Regarding the second issue, even if you do daven vasikin every day, if you are in a minyan that is davening slower, etc. and won’t make it in time, you should not daven Shemona esrei in the shul, because this is embarrassing the congregation. Rather you should daven Shemona Esrei outside.
