Do these two situations require a chatas?

Question:

Ha Rav, 1. I was putting on my socks when I heard an inside sock thread tear. Am I responsible for a chatas. 2. A plastic spoon I was using to scoop out peanut butter broke. Am I responsible for a Chatas?

Answer:

Hello,

Both instances that happened to you are not a reason for any concern. Both things that broke, were not done intentionally, as you were putting on your socks normally and did not expect the tread to rip, nor that the spoon should break. This is called a “davar sheino miskaven” an action that was done unintentionally. Therefore, not only are you not liable for a chatas, but there is no need for you to have any cncerns regarding it.

Best wishes
