Planting during aveilus

Question:

Is an aveil for a parent allowed to plant any plants for pleasure and beauty or for food after shloshim?

Answer:

Hamakom yinachem eschem b’toch shar aveilei Tzion, v’Yerushalayim

An avel during shloshim or the mourning year is allowed to plant things, even for beauty, and suerly for food. This is not included in the prohibition of not decorating the house, etc. Nor is it considered engaging in activinties that give excessive simcha.

  1. Thank you for responding so quickly and clarifying the halacha. I remember my mother doing some gardening and doing the same makes me feel a connection. Gmar chasima tova.
