Plastic Container used to store cooked meat..

Question:

Hi, I used a plastic Tupperware container to store cooked meat, is the container now considered “Meat”?

Answer:

Thank you for your question.

The status of the container depends on what was placed inside it. If the meat was cold, but had some liquid gravy or other liquid that touched the container, and it was stored on it for 24 hours, then the container if considered meaty, because it absorbed the meaty taste. If it was stored in the container for less than 24 hours, then it is not considered meaty, and it can be washed out with soap and not hot water and used for other things. Additionally if the meat was hot when it was placed in the container, then it is considered meaty, because the hot meat will impart taste to the container.

In general a container should not be used for storing meat if you don’t want it to be considered meaty.

Best wishes.
