I have a schach mat, that has pretty much disintegrated due to the strings rotting.
Can I restring the slats? If yes, what can I use to restring them? They are selling mats tied with mono-filament fishing line under the Star-k hechsher. Can I use mono fishing line?
Alternatively, can I basket weave the old strips (without string) to make a mat?

Regarding the mono- filament, I can’t comment as I don’t know enough about it. Regarding basket weaving the slats together, that would be fine. It is however noteworthy, that if the slats are very brittle, and might fall apart on their own, that can be an issue.
