Question:
Dear Rabbi,
I was surprised to see that the correct bracha is HaEtz.
So, unless the grape is made into juice or wine, it is not HaGafen?
Answer:
Hello,
Correct. The bracha on fruits that grow on trees is Haetz, such as grapes, olives, or oranges. There is a specialness to wine, since it is considered by the torah as a prominent drink, that we say a special bracha on it, “borei pri hagofen”. This however would only apply if the juice was made int o wine (or at least grape juice). Otherwise the bracha on grapes of haetz.
Best wishes
